Dr. Wiesenthal has a particular interest in providing treatment to people during times of change and stress, recognizing that times like these also provide opportunities for growth and meaning. These include young adulthood, fertility treatment, parenthood, living with medical illness, death, and grief. Anxiety also is a particular area of interest. In addition to treating clients, Dr. Wiesenthal has a commitment to clinical training and has supervised dozens of emerging professionals; graduate student clinicians in clinical and counseling psychology, residents, and psychologists during the postdoctoral supervision period. She has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at Western University and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Wiesenthal completed her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her internship at London Health Sciences Centre (focusing on adult mental health and behavioural medicine), and her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University. Jennifer completed her master’s degree in clinical science and psychopathology at Western University, and is in the final stage of completing her doctorate in the same program. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the London Clinical Psychology Residency Consortium in Adult Mental Health. Throughout her clinical training, Jennifer has helped individuals struggling with a range of presenting concerns, such as anxiety, low mood, trauma, procrastination, low motivation, relationship difficulties, and grief. She has held positions in a variety of settings, including community mental health centres, hospitals, and a university counselling centre. Her graduate research has focused on evaluating the tools we use to study how and why our thinking can become negatively biased under certain conditions.
Jennifer strongly values her training as both a clinician and a scientist, as it allows her to most effectively help her clients meet their goals. Jennifer fosters strong therapeutic relationships with her clients by showing up to each session authentically, with openness, curiosity, empathy, and non-judgement. Practicing from an ACT perspective, Jennifer works collaboratively with her clients to help them clarify their therapy goals and to ensure that their therapy work is leading them toward those goals. Jennifer has a strong commitment to her own ongoing training and remains up to date on new research and training opportunities. She uses evidence-based techniques and tools that have been demonstrated to help people make meaningful changes. She also recognises, however, that each client is unique. By individualizing how she approaches therapy for each client and monitoring progress, Jennifer is able to collaboratively and flexibly adjust to meet the evolving needs of her clients to support them as best she can.
Jennifer currently is accepting new clients for February 2025.
